Excel Level 3: Advanced Overview

Apply Excel's advanced analysis, automation and business-intelligence tools to real data.

Part of the PCG Excel Training Program, which builds Excel proficiency in progressive stages: from core worksheet skills, through intermediate charting and financial functions, to advanced business-analysis tools such as pivot tables, macros and OLAP. Each level runs as its own one-day session, and a short bonus module covers what is new in Excel 365 (maps, data types, cell comments, data from a picture).

What we cover

  • Lists Purpose and use of lists in Excel, creating and maintaining a list, editing records with the data form, filtering, subtotals.
  • Macros and user-defined functions Recording and using macros, creating and using user-defined functions.
  • Basic analysis tools What-if analyses and scenarios.
  • Advanced analysis tools and external data Querying a database, importing and exporting files, data validation, worksheet protection, password-protecting a workbook.
  • Business analysis tools Pivot tables and pivot charts: parts of a pivot table, reports, building from worksheet data and from external sources, pivot chart reports. Slicers: using, formatting and sharing between pivot tables. Sparklines: types, creating, customizing and formatting. Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and business intelligence in Excel.
  • Bonus: What's New in Excel 365 Turn data into maps, stock and geographic data types, comments in a cell, adding data from a picture.
